Welcome to our client profile and Newcastle Business post for February.

This month we take a look at our client Womble Bond Dickenson, a Newcastle business that has its roots firmly set in the North East.

In the 1980s we began working for Dickenson Dees Solicitors a law firm in Newcastle. You may remember the interview with our traffic consultant Alistair Malkin in which Alistair mentioned an urgent delivery we undertook during the Great Storm of 1987. This booking came in from Dickenson Dees, and the delivery was to Cornwall. (More on that story here). We cut our teeth on deliveries such as this and gained our reputation for going above and beyond and providing a consistent and absolutely dependable service.

Today we continue to deliver urgent legal documents for this law firm. More recently they booked one of our couriers to make a delivery to London. We were running against the clock, and although we arrived with five minutes to spare, it was a Friday afternoon, and the delivery address had closed for the weekend. In this instance, we liaised between various solicitors offices in London, solicitors offices in Newcastle, and a third party solicitor to find a secure address to make the delivery.

History

A Journal news report in 2012/13 stated that Dickenson Dees has a history in Newcastle that stretches back to 1786, and highlighted the fact that it was not only the oldest, but also, the most significant North East law firm. One hundred and eighty-nine years from these early beginnings, in 1975, after various mergers two firms combined to form Dickenson Dees. The law firm continued their policy of alliances adding strength to the company in 2013 when they merged with US based Bond Pearce.

In 2017 Bond Dickenson and US firm Womble Carlyle united to form Womble Bond Dickenson. The firm now has offices in nine major UK cities plus numerous offices in the US.
