Plasma Express

Our Plasma Express (blood courier) is an integral part of our service. What could require a trusted and reliable courier service more than an urgent call for plasma? We all know the feeling of completing a well organised and well-executed project. This is especially true for our couriers on some of the expressly urgent medical services we provide. An appreciative customer on the receiving end of a delivery really makes it all worthwhile.

This is a case study highlighting the pathology service we offer.

THE PROBLEM
At approx 10:00 am. we had a request for an urgent pathology collection from Wakefield. The sample required specialised attention which was not available on site. Medical staff in Newcastle needed the sample for testing so they could determine the best course of action for the patient in Wakefield.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
The sample needed to be kept at an ambient temperature.

HOW WE SOLVED THE PROBLEM

Within minutes of the call our Plasma Express courier was on route to Wakefield. About 2 hours after our clients request our courier collected the sample. The sample was transported using a specialised Biotherm box. The Biotherm box is part of the Intelsius range of shipping systems. It is specifically designed to maintain sample integrity during transport. The Biotherm box is one of the solutions we use in our pathology service. It provides a protected and temperature controlled environment for the safe transportation of a range of pathology samples. We used a dedicated vehicle and our courier made a direct collection and delivery. Just under 4 hours after our clients’ request we delivered the sample in Newcastle.

Outcome

In under 4 hours, the sample was available in the Newcastle Laboratory for testing. We provided a safe and secure delivery which supported the NHS with their patient treatment.
